I had to chuckle at the perceptive commentary in today’s Pickles comic:

Not only is the terminology silly – but therer is no real business model behind Facebook, UTube, Twitter. etc. For all the bandwidth they consume and users they attract there seem to be no way for those Social sites to monetize those eyeballs. One wonders how long they can burn thru venture capital. How long will these sites be in business if they can’t charge their customers for use, and they can’t do any sort of real targeted advertising to attract those dollars?

Additionally (sorry I forgot to identify myself in the previous comment). As an indicator – Yahoo announced it was shutting down it early social site – GeoCities, for which it paid $3.5 billion in 1999.) If I were a shareholder in Google, that might pain me a bit.
